Dubai International Airport registers over 4 million passengers in August

The Dubai International Airport has handled 4, 019, 230 passengers in August, This is 0.8 per cent higher than the same figure reported in the same month a year ago, as per the statistical results released by the Dubai airports. In this year to-date passenger traffic rose 8 per cent to 33.3 million,as compared with 30.9 million in last year. Numbers on Middle East routes were lowered by 65,000 compared with last year "due to the affects of Ramadan along with ongoing instability in some destinations in the region", the report said.
However arund 42,385 more passengers flew to and from Arab Gulf countries than last year, There was an increase in traffic to the Indian subcontinent and Russia.
Even though passenger traffic increased, Air freight volumes, slumped 7.9 per cent. Dubai has handled 182,781 tons of cargo in August compared to 198,543 in last year. Year-to-date freight volumes lowered 1.2 per cent due to ongoing uncertainty in the U.S. and Europe, it added.
