Dubai museum is housed in Al Fahidi Fort, which once guarded the city's landward approaches. Built around 1787 it has served as a palace, garrison and prison. In 1970 it was converted to an innovative and imaginatively designed museum that depicts Dubai's culture and history by showing how people lived during ancient days. The areas shows scenes from traditional Arabian houses, schools, mosques, spice souqs, people at work offer sounds and smells, as well as the visual delights. The desert and the animals that inhabit it are presented in an innovative and interactive way that is fun for both adults and children. A big room is dedicated only for marine life and the activities of the pearl divers.
